If cities around the country were to mandate that taxicabs be hybrid, it would cut their CO2 output in half. Because cab drivers are on the road so much, every hybrid cab actually cancels out one American's CO2 output for an entire year. Cab drivers cut their spending on gasoline in half. It is a solution that helps all involved: cab drivers, cities, and the nation as a whole.

I love this concept, but my concern is that the term 'hybrid' can often mask an engine that actually runs at less mpg than a traditional vehicle:

I love the idea, but the problem is that unfortunately some 'hybrid' cars really aren't as environmentally friendly as they are made out to be, and in some cases have lower mpg than normal cars cf. http://www.thedailygreen.com/living-green/blogs/cars-transportation/clea... granted these are unlikely to ever be cabs, but still...

The hybrid technology may not be the ultimate answer... but it's a step in the right direction. I'm all for hybrid taxis... quiet, clean while saving fuel.
