Green Dorms at The George Washington University

1. ... and then all the other schools

Folks, this is just an idea I can not get out of my head.

Many people argue that the problem with solar is where do you put all the panels? It uses up too much space, we can't put it in the Mojave blah blah blah.

On the other hand what could our schools do with the money they pay on their energy bill? Put the two together and problem solved.

Imagine if every school building from pre-school to Stanford had solar panels (unless under trees and shaded by buildings etc). Schools could be saving money and making money off the excess power sold back to the grid. Tons of green jobs would be created to build and maintain the network.

What's it going to take to get our schools off the grid?

2. I think it's great what

I think it's great what they're doing at Building JJ, it's terrific that they're so dedicated to reducing their carbon footprint. I also hear there was a lot of competition to get in this year - a good sign, it means a lot of GW students are interested in becoming more energy-efficient. Now if only we can get those in other dorms to start using similar strategies...
