Big Oil's Last Day
About the Author
My commitment to conservation, environmental justice, and animal welfare stems from an unusual childhood neighborhood—the zoo. As the daughter of a zoologist, my house was on the zoo grounds; my backyard was literally home to California Sea Lions, Siberian Tigers and Arctic Polar Bears. I’m a vegetarian because I love animals and I work for Pacific Environment, an environmental organization dedicated to supporting grassroots environmental work around the Pacific Rim, because I think protecting the environment is one the hardest but most important challenges for my generation. You can learn more about Pacific Environment at www.pacificenvironment.org
When I saw the Planet Forward announcement, I enlisted the help of my good friend Melanie. Melanie is a ridiculously hilarious actor/comedian/writer/theater director/filmmaker/producer/ teacher. Aside from being incredibly talented and having starred in and created a slew of super funny films, she has a huge heart and agreed to give up her weekends and evenings to help me infuse some comedy into an issue I feel really passionately about.
I love the environment. Melanie loves films (and her friend). Together we created “Big Oil’s Last Day”

For inspiration, we recommend you check out our PBS TV special, and our web sequel, with Van Jones, President Obama's green jobs advisor, joining Planet Forward's Frank Sesno in a discussion of the formula for our energy future.

1. Great!
This is great. Such thoughtful writing and the acting was great. Good Stuff
2. Great job, Sarah, Frostpaw, and team!
One of President Bush's last acts in office was to issue regulations weakening the protections that the polar bear, endangered by big oil, receives. On the campaign trail, President Obama pledged to revoke Bush's Endangered Species Act regulations, and Congress then granted his Interior Secretary Ken Salazar a golden opportunity to rescind the rules entirely with no more than the stroke of a pen, but this special authority extends only until May 9th. Please ask Secretary Salazar to protect the polar bear by rescinding the Bush rules at www.savethepolarbear.org.
3. hillarious

4. Well-acted, creative, and valid, informative points!!!
I like the subtle use of humor in this short. Many of the shorts here are documentary style and I enjoyed the narrative approach. The creativity of the filmmakers and writers is evident.
We need to move past a focus on Big Oil and into our new energy future. It's great that more and more people seemed keyed in on this point, including our new President. Together we can move into this New Energy era. Yes we can!!!!
Great job Kagan and Melanie!!

Effective video, good script and acting. Congratulations.
6. Putting Oil in the Past
The more we can get oil as a thing of the past into people's consciousness, the quicker it will get there.
Kudos you creative world changers!!

It's refreshing to see this topic handled with humor! The performances are great and the hand-held camera style is fun and reminiscent of "The Office."
I was also surprised to see the mammalian treat at the ending! Very funny!

Who's your greasy, smelly friend...ur... recently terminated employee?
about time you (WE) ditched him!!!
There's no need for drilling offshore or in ANWAR, with smart new clean technologies (like ours), standing by.
Even though it's made from trash and other waste products, our fuel smells better than oil and doesn't pollute.
Love your video, Sarah. Ours (EcoTech Fuels) is coming soon. Keep an eye out for it.
